AmTrykes

AmTryke-Ryan

AMBUCS mission is to promote independence and mobility for people with disabilities. The AmTryke is one mission based program of the AMBUCS organization. AmTyrke recipients include very young disabled children, adults with severe injuries from a car accident, wounded veterens and people from a wide range of backgrounds.  The original AmTryke was developed in 1994 in Texas and many models and additions have been added since then. The most unique feature of the several of the bikes are their ability to be propelled with the upper body, using a hand crank, and with the lower body, using the pedals. The current models of AmTrykes include:

Model Age Weight Limit
The Toddler Tryke (AM-9)* 2-4 years 150#
The AM-12* 3-8 years 150#
The AM-16* 8+ years 175#
The ProSeries 1412 4-10 years 125#
The ProSeries 1416 6-12 years 175#
The ProSeries 1420 10+ years 250#
The 2700 Series (20" & 24")
(designed for higher functioning adults)

Besides promoting exercise, coordination, and strengthening, the AmTryke is a FUN way for individuals to gain mobility skills. We have repeatedly heard about how a Tryke allows a child to play with their siblings and become "more normal".  There are many adaptations and modifications that can be added to the tryke to allow success for all riders, regardless of physical abilities. Riders are typically referred by their therapist. For further information on the AmTryke models and accessories, please visit the national website @ www.ambucs.org and click on the AmTryke option.  You can also click HERE to read a letter from a mother of an AmTryke recipient.

The Caprock Chapter of AMBUCS is pleased to give these Trykes away to deserving and qualifying individuals FREE of charge. If you know an individual that would benefit from an AmTryke, please contact Leslye Molamphy at 806-241-2608 for more information.
